  • Effective Communication – A Two-Way Street

Learn best practices for communicating with and understanding the expressive actions of individuals living with dementia.

March 21, 2018

We communicate in some way with everyone around us all day. When a care partner has difficulty communicating with a person who has dementia, it can result in dependence or excess disability for people with dementia, and stress for care partners.  As a result, care partners often take over or provide too much support for activities, reinforcing dependence.  Correctly interpreting what the person is trying to communicate is far easier if we get to know the person and learn about their past skills and interests. In this presentation, you’ll learn effective communication techniques as well as problem-solving strategies for responding to expressive actions of people with dementia.
