Dear VOICE ACCORD Attendees:
As previously announced, our 2020 ACCORD was moved from April to July 13, 2020, due the impossibility of safely meeting in-person because of COVID-19. While parts of the commonwealth are seeing fewer cases, there is still a serious concern about getting large groups of people together, even in July. For your safety and convenience, this year’s ACCORD will now be a virtual experience!
We will hear from our keynote speaker, Teepa Snow, in the morning. Then we will take a short break, and reconvene for two breakout sessions in the afternoon. While CEUs will be provided only to those who signed up to receive them (and who participate in the sessions), you are welcome to have multiple people in your location view the presentations through the link we will provide. Of course, if you have multiple people in a room to experience the virtual ACCORD, we encourage you to observe physical distancing recommendations and wear masks (our new reality!).
Here is a more detailed breakdown of the schedule for July 13:
- 8:30 am – Welcome and introductions
- 8:45 am – Teepa Snow
- 10:00 am – Break
- 10:15 am – Teepa Snow
- 11:30 am – Announcement
- 11:45 to 12:45 pm – Lunch
- 12:45 pm – “Cultivating a Culture of Compassion”, the competitive edge. Denise Borgoyn
- 1:45 pm – Break
- 2:00 pm – “Engaging the Aging” Jill Yesko
- 3:00 pm – Closing remarks, adjournment
CEU information, as well as the link for the day’s events, will be provided prior to the big event.
Thank you for your patience as we work to provide a great experience, while also keeping everyone safe in this current COVID-19 reality.
VOICE Board of Directors
Teepa is a leading trainer and consultant providing support and care that places the person living with dementia in a pivotal role when determining what is needed. Her goal is to help communities, agencies, organizations, professionals, families, and individuals develop the awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to better support and care for someone living with the brain changes of dementia. She is the owner and CEO of Positive Approach, LLC with over 40 employees or independent contractors across the US and Canada. Her approach to dementia care and training is changing how many view neurodegenerative conditions and dementias, and how care is delivered throughout the US, Canada, Wales, and across the UK and Europe. As an occupational therapist with forty years of clinical practice, she has founded a company and an approach to support and engage people experiencing changes in brain function. Teepa created the GEMS® States model for appreciating and supporting people as they progress through the brain changes of dementia. The GEMS model likens people to gemstones and focuses on supporting and fostering retained abilities by providing environmental and interaction cues. This allows us to match the needs, and provide necessary support, so that people can live well from the first symptoms until the end of life.
